Uaynaputina (Huaynaputina, Waynaputina) - a large volcano located in the volcanic highlands of southern Peru. The volcano is not identifiable in the mining field, but instead has the form of a large volcanic crater. Famous for the catastrophic eruption of 19 February 1600 (Volcanic Explosivity Index or VEI 6), which was the most powerful eruption in the history of South America. It is believed that this eruption was the cause of major climatic changes, known as the "Little Ice Age." In particular, it caused a great famine in Russia 1601-1603 years, a consequence of which was the Time of Troubles.
